What is Custard ?
Custard is generally referred to as a dessert made with milk, eggs, and sugar. Custard is usually cooked in a double boiler or heated very gently in a saucepan on a stove, though custard can also be steamed, baked in the oven with or without a water bath, or even cooked in a pressure cooker. This recipe is very easy to make and only needs a few ingredients.

Ingredients
- Eggs , large – 4
- Whole milk – 4 cups
- Sugar – 1/3 cup
- Salt – 1/4 tsp
- Vanilla Extract – 1 1/2 tsp
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium-size bowl, beat the eggs. Add in sugar, salt and vanilla , mix well. Set aside.
In a heavy bottomed pan heat milk till tiny bubbles form around the edges of the pan. Turn off the gas.
Slowly add the egg mixture to the milk , whisking milk mixture constantly.
Pour through a strainer into a baking dish or into 10 6-oz ramekins.
Place baking dish in a larger pan. Fill the larger pan with hot water to 1 in.
Bake at 350° for 55-60 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool to room temperature.
Serve at room temperature or cold.
Stovetop Method :
Bring about 1 inch of water to a boil over high heat in a big flat-bottomed wok or large skillet. Reduce the heat to low so that the water is gently simmering, adjusting the heat if necessary. Place the ramekins inside the pan , leaving space between the cups. Cover the pan with a lid and steam until the custards are just set (the centers will jiggle a little), replenishing the water if needed, about 20 to 25 minutes.
